Speech recognition systems from various vendors have been commercially available since the beginning of the 90s. Dr. Josef Schaefer, CEO of leading systems vendor AnNoText GmbH, caught the technology bug early on. AnNoText has been focused on the development and sale of solutions for streamlining the business processes of law firms and in-house legal departments since 1979.
In 1994, Vienna-based Philips Speech Processing launched SpeechMagic, the world's first solution capable of converting continuous, natural speech into text. Other vendors were left standing. As the first partner of Philips Speech Processing, AnNoText developed a legal "context" of legal vocabulary in German and English. The successful integration of speech recognition into the company's own software, the transition from analogue to digital dictation and the design of a unique dictation workflow for lawyers quickly led to the genesis of a separate product, DictaPlus, and the establishment of DictaPlus GmbH in 1998. DictaPlus is now the benchmark in Germany for digital dictation, speech recognition and dictation workflow for the legal profession, the DictaPlus solution also having achieved considerable success in the medical sector as well as other business sectors.
